Today I’m going to show you the best rangefinder scope.

In fact:

I’ve hand- tested over 10 scopes alone for this review.

The best part?

I’ve sorted the scopes by use. So whether you’re on a budget or need the most premium digital rifle scope, you’ll find it here.

Let’s dive in!

The 4 Best Rangefinder Scope

If you’re pressed on time, here’s a quick list of the best rangefinder scopes for rifle:

  1. Burris Optics Eliminator III 4-16×50: Best Rangefinder Rifle Scope
  2. ATN X-Sight II HD 5-20: Best for the Money
  3. ATN ThOR-HD 640: Most Premium Digital Rifle Scope
  4. ATN X-Sight Pro 3-14x: Best for the Budget

1. Burris Optics Eliminator III 4-16×50: Best Rangefinder Rifle Scope

Looking for the best long-range rangefinder scope? The Burris Eliminator III might be the answer.

This easily programmable scope did all the calculation for me out in the field, giving me the perfect shot, every time.

All I had to do was simply add my favorite ammo to the program before heading out. I wasted no time acquiring and engaging my target with fast, deathly-accurate shots.

Let’s take a closer look.

Glass Clarity & Reticle

The Eliminator III has multi-coated glass which gave me a crystal creal view and limited refractions. I had an easy time seeing my target at all magnifications, although it did have a limited field of view.

Considering the 50mm bell and the price-range of the scope, I expected the field of view to be better. However, the red dot and the easy to read MILdot reticle made up for any frustrations I had with the glass.

The red dot is easy to see in high and low light conditions. Having a second focal plane on the reticle didn’t obscure my field of view for targets as close as 50 yards, or at distances over 500 yards.

The laser rangefinder included in this scope automatically calculated the elevelation and the distance on my target. The red dot adjusts in the reticle telling me exactly where to hold-over for the perfect shot.

The only real work I needed to do was to adjust for the wind, but the 10 mph windage dots were easy to read and made that adjustment painless.

It’s important to point out that the laser rangefinder is battery powered. While Burris Optics boasts the laser has a long battery life, it would be a good idea to keep a spare onhand in case it needs to be replaced.

Eye Relief & Eye Box

The eye relief with this scope falls within the standard 3.5 to 4 inches, which should be comfortable for most shooters.

However, if you’re shooting a gun that kicks like a mule, get another scope.

Durability

The Burris Eliminator III is built tough.

In fact, I gave it quite a beating on my last hunting trip. I knocked it against boulders while crossing a gravel field. I submerged it in a stream crossing. I did not baby it or treat it lightly.

After all of the abuse, it still held zero like a champ.

And even if I did manage to break it, Burris will fix it thanks to the lifetime warranty.

However, this durability comes at a cost:

Heavy weight (1.9 pounds).

If this is too heavy for you, you could always check out my lightweight scope guide.

Elevation & Windage Knobs

Ergonomic and straightforward, all of the knobs and buttons on this were easy to reach without having to adjust my shooting position.

I could even make adjustments with gloves on.

I will say that elevation adjustments will not be needed after the scope has been zeroed because (as I mentioned above) it’s programmed to make those adjustments for you.

The reticle has easy-to-read dots to let me figure the windage hold-over easily. All you need to do is literally point and pull the trigger.

I easily zeroed in this scope in 3 shots or less. Simple.

Parallax & Magnification

Parallax can be eliminated at 30 yards and I didn’t have any wobble in my view through the entire magnification range of the scope.

The scope starts at a 4x zoom making plinking effortless. I had the same easy accuracy throughout the magnification range of this scope.

It’s accurate from 100 yards all the way to 1000 yards.

Mounting & Rings

Included with the scope are both weaver and picatinny mounts. The scope also has its own built-in rings so I did not have to make any special hardware purchases.

Like with any scope installation I needed a torque screwdriver:

  • [FEATURES]: Torque limiting feature allows screwdriver to torque to set level, which avoids damage to threaded fasteners
  • [EASY-TO-USE]: 'Pull-Turn-Lock' handle is designed to ensure easy adjustment and automatic tension locking

A gun-vice:

  • Ease of use: L-shape center support holds break-open guns securely and separate quick-release cam blocks move independently to accommodate any stock shape
  • Versatility: Easily configurable to handle bolt-action rifles, break-open shotguns, extendable magazine rifles and handguns and every component adjusts to accommodate different firearms and projects
  • Durable: Non-marring, solvent-resistant polymer stands up to years of hard use

And a bubble level.

I thought that the overall setup was very straightforward. The instructions were easy to read and understand.

Is the Burris Optics Eliminator worth it?

If you are a hunter or long range competitor who wants to take all the guesswork out of your shots, I would definitely recommend the Eliminator III.

It has:

  • Clear glass
  • Trajectory Compensation
  • Easy-to-read Mildot reticle
  • Burris Optics “Forever” warranty
  • Calculates hold for your exact distance and ammo choice
  • Durable double, internal tension spring system that will hold zero no matter what

The Eliminator III laser rangefinder rifle scope put me right on target with ease. There were no missed opportunities and this gave me confidence in my shots. I didn’t second guess my calculations or hesitate.

Without a doubt, I think the Burris Optics Eliminator III is a great option for anyone who wants to easily increase their accuracy at any distance.

2. ATN X-Sight II HD 5-20: Best for the Money

Let’s chat about a Day and Night rifle scope because seriously this needs some talking about. So many features that we will discuss here in a little bit. I am happy today that during the testing mode I got to tinker around with the zeroing, accuracy, see the durability of the scope as well as glass quality.

So stay tuned and I will tell you what I know.

Are you ready? Let’s Roll!

Glass Clarity & Reticle

Let’s be real here, you are not getting top of the line glass here. But that is not what this scope is intended for. I will go into more detail about that soon. It’s not the clearest glass out there on the market. If you intend to use this for a fast-moving game, this may not be for you. This scope is best loved for all its features

The eye relief is about 65mm or 2.55”, so not a whole lot. You may need to purchase a rail extender to get the appropriate eye relief you are specifically looking for or mount it or possibly mount it on a collapsible stocked rifle

Durability

Everything seemed to work as well as it should have so at this time, I have no reason to get a hold of the manufacturer but based on the manufacture website this digital rifle scope with rangefinder does not seem like it would be hard to get ahold of customer service and issues resolved. Bonus! Love a good company that takes care of their customers and stand by their products

Elevation & Windage Knobs

I don’t know about you but I love to hear when a scope is easy to zero in, I mean who wants to deal with the hassle of zeroing in over and over especially when it doesn’t hold. I want to do it once and trust that I am spot on. So good news, if you don’t plan on taking it on and off multiple times it should hold zero pretty reliable.

One-shot zero is amazing! At 75 yards I tried the one-shot zero and my shot was accurate — right on the money. In fact, I used this scope for hog hunting and it worked out great.

Parallax & Magnification

Magnification is digital at 5-20x, however the further you zoom out the more pixelated it gets. The good news is the images are still very useful. I can trust the magnification whether I am out hunting or target shooting or even just a day at the range.

Mounting & Rings

This particular scope comes with Picatinny rails, bonuses these are interchangeable. Picatinny is just the standard versatile. Picatinny might not work for your rifle; it all depends on if your rifle is tapped for a scope base. Good news for you, most are!

Is the ATN X-Sight II Smart HD worth it?

ABSOLUTELY!

The digital rifle scope with rangefinder has many neat features from day and night resolution, a ballistic calculator which will shift on a whim for point of impact. No more calculating in your head. Smart range finder, takes two clicks and your range will be identified and 1080 HD Video Recording which comes in handy when teaching youth how to hunt so you can see what they see. So, all in all, I feel the ATN X-Sight II is worth the money. Especially if you don’t have $1000s of dollars to spend.

3. ATN ThOR-HD 640: Most Premium Digital Rifle Scope

We’ve always had an issue with hogs and coyotes at night on my land. For years we had trouble hunting them since they only come out at night.

Most night vision scopes just don’t do the job. You need extra lighting or attachments for them to really work and it turns into a pain really quickly.

Then I found the ATN ThOr-HD 640 and my problems were solved. Keep reading and I’ll show you what’s so great about this scope.

Glass Clarity & Reticle

This scope is crystal clear. We’re talking I was able to see deer at 400ft and hogs at 300ft.

The resolution on it is 640×480 and it refreshes at 50Hz. It’s got a smooth zoom so it never feels jerky when I go in for a closer look.

It’s a digital scope, so make sure your firmware is always up to date. Grab a bigger memory card, and it’ll treat you right. If you don’t, you’ll see some glitches in the zoom and clarity.

The ATN ThOR comes with a standard duplex reticle, but the best thing about it is the built in smart rangefinder. With 2 measurements, one above the target and one below, the reticle will self adjust the target to the point of impact.

Combined with the internal ballistic calculator, this scope takes out the guesswork of hunting. It gives you the perfect shot, every time.

Eye Relief & Eye Box

With an eye-relief of 2.6”, I found that it fit poorly on my bolt-action rifles, but it worked well on my AR.

That worked out better for me when I was hunting the coyote packs that were tearing through my land.

It’s a thermal vision scope, so it detects heat instead of light. That means I can clearly see my target at night. It’s a way more effective night vision scope than a lot of competitors on the market.

Durability

The scope is made of a durable aluminium and weighs in at 1.7lbs so I didn’t notice the weight when it was mounted.

It’s solidly built and comes with a carrying case for when it’s not attached.

Like other digital scopes, the main drawback is the internal computer. It’s fragile, and there’s no way around that.

If you’re not careful and you bang it up, it’ll break.

Elevation & Windage Knobs

It was a dream to zero. It took two shots and less than five minutes, and it’s held zero the whole time I’ve had it.

The knobs turn smoothly with an audible click.

This scope comes with a slew of additions. My favorites are the RAV and the profile manager.

With the RAV, I get to record every single hunt. I can see what went right (or wrong), and I can show them to my friends after the fact.

Sometimes it fails and doesn’t record with a sensitive trigger pull. But it’s got a button to manually record the action whenever you want.

The profile manager is a lifesaver when you’re switching the scope between rifles. Not having to resight every time is a huge selling point by itself.

The buttons for all these features are in a weird spot though, so you might want to invest in a remote to control them.

ATN X-Trac Smart Tactical Remote Access Control w/Bluetooth, Device Works Smart HD Scopes to Operate Through The menu Faster
  • Tactical Remote Access Control System - gives you control of your ATN Smart Scope without having to use your support hand to adjust settings
  • Connect via Bluetooth to your ATN Smart device - provides control over various features of your ATN Smart device such as Ballistic Calculator, Rangefinder, etc
  • Zoom roller - controls your ‘zoom’ or you can use it to scroll through the menus

Parallax & Magnification

It’s got a mag of 1.5-15x with a 25mm objective lens. Unlike other digital scopes, even at higher mags the picture was still crystal clear.

It comes factory set to eliminate parallax, and I’ve never experienced any issues with it.

Mounting & Rings

It comes with a picatinny quick release mount which works well on an AR, so I didn’t need to swap it out.

The main drawback for this scope is the really weak battery life. It goes through 4 AAs in a few hours. To avoid spending an obscene amount on batteries every hunt, spare yourself and invest in a battery pack.

Trust me, you’ll thank me later.

Is the ATN ThOR-HD 640 worth it?

This is an amazing digital scope. It’s clarity is intense and it’s got so many extra features that just make life so much better when you’re hunting.

  • RAV
  • Mag 1.5-15x
  • Easy zeroing
  • Smart Rangefinder
  • Integrated Gyroscope
  • Crisp, clear visuals to 400 ft
  • Thermal scope for night hunting

It’s pricey at $3629, but it’s absolutely worth it. It’s also got a 3 year warranty on it, so if it breaks down you’re covered.

This is a great scope and necessary if you do a lot of night hunting. If you’ve got a lot of land to protect like I do, this is a no-brainer buy. Check the ATN ThOR-HD 640 out for yourself.

4. ATN X-Sight Pro 3-14x: Best for the Budget

The X-sight 3-14X from ATN is one of the best bang-for-buck sights out there.

The X-sight Pro was designed for day and night. This scope comes with 4K HD zoom that can record to an SD card AND stream video so that you can brag about your shots in real-time.

But is it worth the money?

Let’s find out…

Glass Clarity & Reticle

Right out of the box, I loved the glass quality. It’s a full multi-coat and completely clear so you can make the most of a low light situation. This thing owns the night!

The lens was great during the day, but remember that the X-sight Pro was designed to let in the maximum possible light. Make sure you turn off night mode before using it in the day, so the light doesn’t literally blind you.

In short:

More light and crystal clear glass means more accurate shots, day or night.

The reticle is a completely adjustable digital reticle in red or green, so you have your choice of a reticle, depending on what you are hunting.

Because it’s digital, it adjusts to any magnification automatically, and you will ALWAYS be able to see it, no matter the light level.

Because the X-sight is a digital scope, it comes with a whole reticle toolkit for bullet drop adjustment and distance estimation.

A riflescope with a built-in rangefinder is one of the best tools you can add to your hunt kit. These measurements are displayed automatically to give you the most information possible for your shot.

One thing I didn’t like was the red and yellow settings on the reticle. It’s hard to see in the day and distracting at night.

The reticle has seven possible colors, most of which aren’t easy to see. I recommend keeping the reticle set to green all the time.

Eye Relief & Eye Box

The X-sight pro has a generous eye relief of 90mm, that’s just over 3.5 inches in Bald Eagle.

Rest assured, even if your rifle kicks like a mule, you won’t be sporting an eye patch any time soon.

Durability

This scope is a solid piece of equipment. Fogproof, waterproof, shatterproof, scratch-resistant.

Regular use won’t hurt it, and you get a few free drops out of a Jeep before you have to worry. The aluminum base keeps it lightweight.

However, the X-sight has built-in recording technology, so don’t go kicking it down the stairs unless you want to bust your SD slot.

I tested it in the rain and had no problems. All the electronics are water-resistant, so you’ll be fine so long as you don’t dive 20 meters and shoot at a shark.

Elevation & Windage

Now, I’ll be honest:

Zeroing my scope is my least favorite part of a new buy. The X-sight has a built-in zero tool, and it’s my new favorite thing.

No more hoofing it between target and rifle, then listening for clicks like I’m trying to crack a safe. Just an easy tool to zero, and stay zeroed.

The zero tool allows you to create profiles for ease of switching weapons. I tried it out and didn’t like it. Personally, I always zero my scope when I move from rifle to rifle.

I don’t recommend relying too much on the profile feature.

Parallax & Magnification

The 3-14X magnification covers it all. The X-sight Pro 3-14X compares with my favorite AR optic in terms of long-range capabilities.

The X-sight really shines at a distance, but if you are stalking a buck with no sense of self-preservation who walks up into close range, not a problem.

The digital magnification adjustment is smooth, and your reticle will auto adjust for distance.

The parallax ring on the objective lens was a set-and-forget for me. After my first zero and parallax check, I stayed perfectly in focus at multiple distances.

In other words:

Less time fiddling, more time shooting.

Mounting & Rings

The X-series Pro comes with free 30mm rings for use with a pic rail.

Is the ATN X-sight Pro worth it?

Absolutely. The X-pro is frankly underpriced based on the glass quality and multi-coat alone.

Given the price, I wasn’t expecting to love it as much as I do, but it’s full of features. Even if you aren’t tech-focused, the recoil activated video is just damn cool.

I absolutely love all the info displays and digital enhancements, in particular…

  • Zero tool
  • Range finder
  • Ballistic calculator
  • Digital auto-scaling reticle
  • 4k view and recording in 180p

If James Bond were a night hunter, the X-Sight Pro 3-14 would be his scope.

The Pro series is a little bit more expensive than the standard ATN offerings, but it’s worth every penny if you take your sport seriously.
